JAPAN AIRLINES EXTENDS AID PERIOD FOR SUMATRA EARTHQUAKE

TOKYO MARCH 31, 2005: Following the Sumatra earthquake of March 28 Japan Airlines will extend the period of providing transportation aid to the region up to April 30th 2005.

Since the December 26th 2004 disaster in the region, JAL has been providing free cargo shipments of relief goods sent to the area from Japanese government agencies, local governments in Japan and public organizations, such as the Japanese Red Cross. This was to end on March 31st, but will now continue up to April 30th.

JAL has been carrying relief goods and materials to regional destinations on the JAL overseas network. From now, JAL will carry goods and personnel from Japan to Jakarta from Tokyos Narita Airport and from Kansai International Airport, Osaka.

The airline will also continue to provide free air transport for staff of public organizations, such as the Japanese Red Cross and Japanese aid organizations that the airline has worked with in the past, until the end of April 2005.
