Japan Airlines to Codeshare on American Airlines' New York=Sao Paulo Flight
Tokyo, October 25, 2010: Japan Airlines (JAL) and oneworld(R)alliance partner American Airlines have reached an agreement to codeshare on flights operated by the latter between New York and Sao Paulo. Reservations and ticket purchase for this codeshare flight begins October 28, 2010, subject to government approval.
The enhanced bilateral agreement will retain Sao Paulo in JAL’s international network after the airline suspended operations that connected the Brazilian city with Tokyo via New York. JAL and American have also applied for antitrust immunity with the U.S. and Japanese authorities to carry out a proposed joint business for flights between North America and Asia, and have recently gained a tentative approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the green light from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan.
JAL and American Airlines codeshare extensively on flights within the United States and Canada. With the latest addition of cooperation on the New York = Sao Paulo route, JAL will continue to provide support to their customers traveling to and from the largest city of Brazil.
