JAL and LAN Enter New Codeshare Agreement

TOKYO, October 19, 2011: Japan Airlines (JAL) and LAN Airlines (LAN), both members of the oneworldAlliance®, have entered into a codeshare agreement that will add Santiago to JAL’s international network. The airlines will connect Narita, through Los Angeles and New York, with Santiago from October 20, 2011, when JAL begins marketing LAN-operated flights between the two North American cities and the capital of Chile.

LAN is the leading airline and one of the largest operators in South America with an extensive network formed by affiliates LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador and LAN Peru. As oneworld partners, JAL and LAN already offer reciprocal frequent flyer benefits, allowing JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) members and LANPASS members to earn and redeem miles across both airlines.

Now, with the new codeshare arrangement, oneworld customers can smoothly connect with JAL’s daily round-trip flights from Tokyo (Narita) to Los Angeles and New York, from which LAN currently operates 7 and 14 weekly round-trip flights respectively to Santiago.

Known for its Chilean wine which is widely popular in Japan, Chile is a geographically diverse country spanning a thin, long strip of land that has some of the driest desert areas in the north as well as breathtaking fjord landscapes in the rainy, temperate south. Reservations and ticket sales start tomorrow.
