TOKYO December 15, 2011: JAL Group (JAL) estimates a total of 427,733 international passengers traveling on its flights during the Japanese New Year vacation period from December 22, 2011 to January 9, 2012 based on current reservation figures.

The number of available seats is 2.3% less than previous year while passenger bookings are up 1.9% led by increase in number of travelers to Europe, South East Asia, China and Taiwan. Additionally, the JAL Group will operate 53 additional flights, both scheduled and charter, to Anchorage, Guam, Hawaii, Palau and Saipan.

Domestically, the number of available seats is 3% lower than last year, with 1,316,919 passenger bookings for travel within Japan. Load factor is projected to be 52.3%, which is an improvement of 1.5 percentage points from a year before. Flights to Hokkaido and Okinawa have the highest load factors while passenger numbers to and from the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions north east of Japan have shown the greatest increase. JAL Group also plans to operate an additional 83 domestic flights to meet demand on popular routes in Japan.
