Tokyo May 12, 2005: Japan Airlines has been appointed by the Japan Olympic Committee (JOC) as an official airline for the 20th Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy in February 2006; and the 29th Olympiad in Beijing, China in August 2008. As an official airline, JAL will provide transportation to the athletes and officials of both the Japanese national summer and winter Olympic teams. Support will be provided from now up until the end of December 2008.
Most recently JAL has been the official airline for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics held in Japan, as well, as the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics, 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, and 2004 Athens Summer Olympics.
In the past, JAL flew the Olympic Flame from Athens to Japan to light the torch at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. In February of this year, JAL supported the 2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games held in Nagano, Japan, and assisted by promoting the event in-flight, dispatching staff to the Games offices, and providing air tickets to athletes.
