JAL FFP Members Can Donate Miles to Special Olympics

Tokyo, Wednesday August 30, 2006: From September 21 2006, members of Japan Airlines' frequent flyer program - the JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) - can donate miles from their accounts in support of the nonprofit organization, `Special Olympics Nippon' (Japan).

Established in 1994, Special Olympics Nippon (SON) is the Japan branch of Special Olympics, an international organization which currently serves more than 2.25 million persons with intellectual disabilities in more than 150 countries worldwide.

Special Olympics Nippon (SON) is dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.

Currently 4,200 athletes with intellectual disabilities supported by 15,000 volunteers, participate in Special Olympics Nippon (SON) events held in Japan throughout the year.

This year the “2006 4th SON Summer National Games” will be held in Kumamoto from November 3 to 5, 2006. At this year's games, held every four years, athletes will compete for a place in the next Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Shanghai in 2007.

JAL Mileage Bank members can support the activities of the Special Olympics Nippon in particular the “2006 4th SON Summer National Games”, by donating JMB miles from their account in units of 10,000 miles. Counting one mile as one yen, the JAL Group will then donate the equivalent amount in cash to Special Olympics Nippon.

JMB mile donations can be made from September 21, 2006 until the end of the calendar year. Members in Japan can make donations by visiting www.jal.co.jp/specialolympics-nippon/. JMB members in other regions are asked to contact their local JAL Mileage Bank Center.

The JAL Group supports the Special Olympics as part of its commitment to contribute to the community at all levels, economic, environmental and social through the involvement of all stakeholders - customers, investors, society in general and employees, through its activities as an air transport group.

In February 2005, JAL supported the 2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games held in Nagano, Japan, and assisted by promoting the event in-flight, and dispatching staff to the Games offices.
