JAL Continues Support of National Football Teams
Tokyo March 26, 2007: Japan Airlines (JAL) has decided to continue its support of the National Japan Football Team* and other representative teams as a `supporting company' in a new agreement with the Japan Football Association covering the eight year period from April 2007 to August 2015.
JAL first supported the Japanese national football team from August 1999 and in June 2001 made a further agreement to support the national squad until March 2007.
During the period of the new agreement there are great expectations of Japan's national teams at an increasing number of international fixtures including the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008) and London (2012) and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The venue for the 2014 FIFA World Cup is yet to be decided.
Supporting companies assist the national team through their core business activities and JAL will provide air transport support. The Japanese Football Association limits the number of supporting companies to a maximum of ten.
By supporting these national soccer teams, JAL wants to assist the further promotion of the game among young people in Japan.
*The support agreement between JAL and the Japan Football Association covers not only the main national football team but also the Under-23, Under-20 and Under-17 teams. In addition the Japan Women's team and the Futsal (indoor five a side) teams are included.
