Tokyo May 23, 2007: From May 28 2007, Japan Airlines (JAL) will start code-sharing on the Osaka - Brisbane - Sydney - Osaka route on flights operated by Jetstar (JQ).

JAL's `JL' designator will be placed on Jetstar flights which operate daily on the triangular routing linking Japan and Australia. The code share agreement only covers economy class on these flights.

Sales and reservations of economy class on the new JAL code share flights start May 24, 2007. Fares issued by JAL will be inclusive of meals and soft drinks. Alcoholic drinks and additional snacks will be available for purchase onboard.

Jetstar is a wholly owned subsidiary airline of Qantas. The airline started flights within Australia on May 25, 2004. The Australian airline first started operating to Japan on March 25, 2007 on the Osaka-Brisbane-Sydney route.

JAL suspended its own flights on this route on March 24 2007 from Japan and on March 25 from Australia. The new code share arrangement with Jetstar enables JAL to maintain its network between Osaka and Australia.

JAL currently operates 1 daily flight between Tokyo (Narita) - Brisbane, and 1 daily flight Tokyo (Narita) - Sydney. It also offers passengers code share flights operated by Qantas between the two countries: 1 daily flight Tokyo (Narita) - Cairns, and a thrice-weekly service between Tokyo (Narita) - Melbourne.

Including passenger and cargo code shares as well as frequent flier tie-ups, JAL now has bilateral agreements with around 30 airlines. This is in addition to the multilateral agreement JAL entered into when it joined oneworld^{潤・lt;/sup>, the leading quality global alliance on April 1, 2007.}
