Press Release
JAL Group Traffic Forecast for 2007 Summer Vacation Period
Tokyo August 3, 2007:Japan Airlines Group today announced projected figures for international and domestic passenger traffic for the Japanese summer vacation period, stretching this year from August 10 to August 19.
The forecast for international passenger traffic on JAL Group flights during the 10-day period, is 456,067, 1.5% up on the same period last year. The forecast seat load factor is currently at 83.2%.
The number of passengers forecast to depart Japan for Guam, South Korea, Southeast Asia, China and Europe are all expected to be up on last year's figures: 44.6%, 12.9%, 9.4%, 3.5% and 1.9% respectively. Projected load factors on almost all routes from Japan are at high levels. Load factors on Hawaii, transpacific and South Korea flights are particularly high at over 90%.
During FY2006 the year ending March 31, 2007, JAL reduced scheduled flight frequency on routes serving Australia and the US. This capacity reduction is reflected in decrease in the number of seats available, and accounts for the decrease in the number passengers forecast to travel on these routes.
JAL will operate 73 extra flights, including some to new destinations such as Calgary, Macau, Palau, and Ulaanbaatar.
JAL Group domestic summer vacation passenger reservations total 1,389,410, 3% lower than last year's traffic result. However domestic seat supply is 2.8% lower than the same period last year. The JAL Group plans to operate an additional 80 flights on domestic Japan routes to key vacation destinations. At present the domestic Japan seat load factor forecast is 70.5%.
