JAL Group Traffic Results for New Year Vacation Period
Tokyo January 7, 2008: During the Japanese New Year vacation period, from December 28, 2007 to January 6, 2008, JAL Group seat supply was 4.7% down on last year, passenger bookings were 5.0% down on last year and seat load factor was 68.2%.
On international routes, a 4.6% decrease in seat supply following network restructuring, notably on Oceania routes, resulted in a 3.3% decrease in JAL Group passenger numbers when compared to the same period last year. Seat load factor was 77.7%. On domestic routes, seat supply was 4.8% down on last year, passenger bookings were 5.5% down on last year and seat load factor was 65.5%. Some domestic flights had to be suspended during the vacation period due to heavy snowfall and strong winds affecting the north of Japan and the Chubu region.
International: Compared to the same period last year, passenger bookings on China, Europe, Korea, and transpacific routes increased by 7.7%, 0.3%, 0.7%, and 6.2% respectively. Compared to last year the number of passengers traveling to Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam were up by 5%, 4% and 20% respectively.
The JAL Group operated an additional 96 flights, both scheduled and charter, to such holiday destinations as Alaska, Alice Springs, Cambodia, Guam, Hawaii, Macau, the Marshall Islands, Palau, and Saipan.
The international seat load factor on most routes was over 80%.
Domestic: Over the festive season, seat supply on domestic Japan routes, measured in available seats was 4.8% lower than the same period last year. The total number of JAL Group domestic passenger bookings was 1,216,751, 5.5% down on last year.
JAL Group operated an additional 67 flights to meet demand on domestic Japan routes serving such popular destinations as Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Okinawa and Sapporo.
