JAL Group Passenger Traffic Forecast in 2008 Golden Week Vacation Period
Tokyo April 22, 2008: Japan Airlines Group announced the passenger traffic forecast on international and domestic routes for the traditional Japanese “GOLDEN WEEK’’ vacation, stretching this year from April 25 to May 6, 2008.
The number of international passenger reservations for Japan flight departures in the period is presently down by 6.7%, and domestic passenger reservations down by 3.1% on the same period in 2007.
International: International passenger reservations during the 12-day period, made up by a combination of public holidays and weekends, currently stand at 401,787 in total. The forecast seat load factor is 63.6%.
Passenger reservations to short-haul international destinations are favorable: Guam, South Korea and Taiwan are up respectively by 8.7%, 18.3% and 7.8% when compared to the same period last year.
JAL Group plans to operate on international routes an additional 44 flights including charter flights to accommodate demand for travel to such destinations as Guam, Honolulu, Macao, Palau, Phuket and Saipan.
At present, seat load factors are particularly high on Guam and Hawaii routes: 83.4%, and 81.0% respectively.
Domestic: JAL Group domestic Golden Week passenger reservations total 1,409,931, 3.1% down on the same vacation period last year. At present the domestic Japan seat load factor forecast is 64.2%.
JAL Group plans to operate an additional 32 flights on domestic Japan routes to accommodate increased demand for travel to Okinawa (Naha), as well as Sapporo.
