JAL Group Traffic Results for 2008 Summer Vacation Period
Tokyo August 18, 2008: Japan Airlines Group today announced its international and domestic passenger traffic results for the Japanese summer vacation period, stretching this year from August 8 to August 17.
The number of JAL Group domestic summer vacation passengers totaled 1,430,735, 0.3% higher than last year’s result, and was particularly favorable on Hokkaido and the Okinawa Islands routes. A total 31 flights had to be cancelled due to, for example, thunderstorms that affected part of the vacation period.
The JAL Group operated an additional 78 flights on domestic Japan routes to key vacation destinations this year. Last year it operated 63 additional flights over the same period. However, domestic seat supply overall was 1.3% lower than the same period last year.
The domestic Japan seat load factor was 74.0%., up 0.8 points compared to last year.
The number of international passenger traveling on JAL Group flights during the 10-day period, was 392,622, 9.6% down on the same period last year. International seat supply was 4.5% lower than the same period last year.
Load factors on almost all routes from Japan were at reasonably high levels, and were particularly high on Hawaii, transpacific and Korea routes at over 89%.
JAL operated 51 extra flights, including charter flights to such destinations as Budapest, Palau, Ulaanbaatar and Zagreb. Last year, it operated a total of 72 extra flights.
The JAL Group international seat load factor was 75.5%, down 4.2 points from the year earlier.
