JAL Group Traffic for 2008/2009 New Year Vacation Period

TokyoJanuary 5, 2009: During the Japanese New Year vacation period from December 26, 2008 to January 4, 2009, the JAL Group carried a total of 381,912 passengers on its international routes. The load factor was 75% while the seat supply and passenger bookings were down 4.4% and 5.5% respectively.

 

When compared to the same period last year, the number of passenger traveling to Hong Kong and Korea increased. Seat load factors were high on Guam, Hawaii, Korea and transpacific routes: 89.2%, 89%, 88.1% and 85.3% respectively.

 

The JAL Group operated 71 additional international flights to such destinations as Bali, Guam, Honolulu, Fairbanks, Fort Lauderdale, Majuro, Miami, Palau and Saipan.

 

For domestic Japan routes over the festive season, JAL carried a total of 1,185,948 passengers, 1.9% down versus previous year and with 2% less in seat supply. The load factor was 65.3%. Several domestic flights were disrupted during this peak period due to heavy snowfall and strong winds.

 

JAL Group operated an additional 77 domestic flights to meet the demand for travel to such popular destinations as Kagoshima, Okinawa and Sapporo.
