Press Release
JAL Increases Cargo Fuel Surcharge for July 2009
Tokyo, June 08, 2009: Japan Airlines (JAL) has applied to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to revise from July 1, 2009, its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan only.
The international cargo fuel surcharge on long-haul international routes will increase from 38 yen to 45 yen per kg, on medium-haul international routes, increase from 33 to 39 yen per kg, and on short-haul routes from 28 yen to 33 yen per kg (see table below).
Since April 1, 2009, JAL has started adjusting its fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singapore kerosene of the month before last. As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene in May 2009 was US$64.20 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level in July will be within the range of US$60.00 to US$64.99 per barrel (refer to table below), resulting in the fuel surcharge increment as mentioned above.
