Press Release
JAL Cargo Fuel Surcharge for March 2011
TOKYOFebruary 7, 2011: Japan Airlines (JAL) has applied to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to revise up from March 1, 2011, its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan only.
Since April 1, 2009, JAL started adjusting its cargo fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singaporekerosene of the month before last. As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for the month of January in 2011 was US$109.83 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level will be within the range of US$105.00 to US$109.99 per barrel (refer to table below).
The international cargo fuel surcharge will therefore increase on long-haul international routes from 101 yen per kg to 108 yen, on medium-haul international routes from 87 yen per kg to 93 yen, and on short-haul routes from 73 yen per kg to 78 yen accordingly.
