JAL Group Traffic Forecast for 2011 Summer Vacation Period

TOKYO August 5, 2011: The JAL Group today announced international and domestic passenger traffic forecast for the Japanese summer vacation stretching from August 12 to August 21, 2011.

Travellers are observed to be taking longer vacations this year and at a time when the yen rate is high. A total of 251,673 passengers have made bookings for international flights during the 10 days. While this is 23.5% less than the number of passengers carried in the same period last year, it is also against a comparative degree of reduction in capacity with 22.3% less seats available on JAL Group international flights this year. Load factors on round-trip flights to all overseas regions are forecast to be above 90%, with the exception of China, Taiwan and Oceania which nevertheless are projected to have load factors of 73.4%, 87.2% and 81.3% respectively. Flights to Honolulu are estimated to be the most full at 95.9%. During this peak season, JAL will operate a total of 22 extra flights - six to Budapest, Croatia and Slovenia in Europe, two to Alaska, six to Honolulu and eight to Palau.

JAL Group domestic reservations during this period totaled 988,302, representing a 4.3% decline versus a year ago. There are almost 20% less seats available this year after a strict review of the Group’s domestic network and flight frequencies. As a result, the airline group estimates an improvement of 10 percentage points in domestic load factor to 71.8% and will operate 185 extra flights this summer to key vacation destinations like Okinawa and Sapporo.
