JAL Group 2012 New Year Vacation Period Traffic Results

TOKYO January 10, 2012: For the 19-day long New Year vacation period between December 22, 2011 and January 9, 2012, JAL Group carried a total of 439,455 passengers on its international flights and 1,594,210 passengers domestically.  

 

The number of available seats on JAL’s international routes was 2.2% less than last year. Passenger count in this segment though, was up 3.0%, led by an increase in travelers to Europe, South East Asia, China and Taiwan. The overall load factor at 82.6% is 4.1 percentage points higher than previous year, with flights to the United States and resort destinations like Hawaii and Guam close to 90% filled.

 

On domestic flights, the number of available seats and passengers were 3.2% and 1.7% less than last year respectively. Load factor improved 1 percentage point from previous year to 63.9%. By region, there was an increase in the number of passengers to all areas of Japan this year, except to Hokkaido and Okinawa. Notably, the greatest increase in traffic is to the Tohoku and Hokuriku areas north east of Japan with 7.7% more travellers than last year.

 

The JAL Group had operated 53 additional flights, both scheduled and charter, to Anchorage, Guam, Hawaii, Palau and Saipan, and 84 extra flights on various domestic routes.
