Press Release
JAL Cargo Fuel Surcharge from April 2012
TOKYO March 7, 2012: Japan Airlines (JAL) has adjusted down the benchmark fuel price levels corresponding to the fuel price range, for the fiscal year 2012. JAL has also today applied to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to revise its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan only from April 2012.
Since April 1, 2009, JAL started adjusting its cargo fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singaporekerosene of the month before last. As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for the month of February in 2012 was US$132.46 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level will be within the range of US$130.00 to US$134.99 per barrel (refer to table below).
The international cargo fuel surcharge will therefore be 132 yen per kg on long-haul international routes, 105 yen per kg on medium-haul international routes, and 82 yen on short-haul routes.
