TOKYO May 7, 2014: JAL Group (JAL) announced today, passenger traffic results for the annual Japanese “Golden Week” vacation that stretched from Friday, April 25 to Tuesday, May 6, 2014.

Compared to holiday period last year, Capacity during this period is 2.2% more on international routes and 2.9% less on domestic routes. JAL carried a total of 288,495 passengers on its international flights and 1,099,695 passengers on the Group’s domestic flights, which represent a 4.7% increase in travellers that went abroad, and 1.4% decrease in travel within the country versus a year ago.

In spite of shorter span of this year’s holidays, the passenger count on routes to resort destinations such as Hawaii and Guam was in greatly good shape. As a result, the total passenger count on the international routes has been approximately five percentage points up compared to last year, and the seat load factor is about two percentage points up to 79.6% than last year. Good traffic on Europe and North America routes with the introduction of new cabin seats helps the increase of the total number of passengers and seat load factor.

Within Japan, JAL offered capacity approximately 3% down than last year, and the seat load factor is one percentage point up compared to last year. Especially on Kyushu routes, the seat load factor increased by more than five percentage points compared to last year thanks to the demand for homecoming and domestic travel.
