JAL NEW・JAPAN PROJECT JAL Group Supports 400-year-old Arita Porcelain Business
~ ARITA×NOBU PROJECT with JAL ~
Tokyo February 1, 2016:The first Japanese porcelain wares were made in the town of Arita, Saga Prefecture of Japan 400 years ago. The JAL Group (JAL) today decided to work together with the local industry to support the business development of Arita Porcelain as part of JAL NEW・JAPAN PROJECT aiming to increase local dynamism.
In order to spread Arita Porcelain towards the world, JAL will start an initial activity to support “ARITA X NOBU PROJECT” for the development of new products and establishment of its sales system.
“ARITA X NOBU PROJECT” is part of “Professional Use Project” in purpose to boost the Arita Porcelain business. Acclaimed and highly influential chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, known around the world as “NOBU,” who is working with seven potteries of Aritayaki (Arita Porcelain) to create new wares to meet the expectations of professional chefs in the world.
The showcase of these new wares will be held in London. JAL sponsored its air transport and documentary filming.

This documentary is scheduled to be broadcasted by NHK WORLD on February 24, 2016. Additionally, JAL will introduce it in the in-flight entertainment on its international routes.
JAL will be contributing to the development of the local industry through promoting attractions of Aritayaki in the in-flight entertainment, and a special coverage in its in-flight magazine -SKYWARD for both domestic and International flights.
