JAL Group Passenger Traffic Results for 2016 Golden Week Vacation Period
TOKYO May 9, 2016: JAL Group (JAL) today announced its passenger traffic results for the annual Japanese “Golden Week” vacation that stretched from Thursday, April 28 to Sunday, May 8, 2016.
Compared to vacation period last year, capacity during this period is 0.2% less on international routes and decreased 1.5% on domestic routes. JAL carried a total of 270,803 passengers on its international flights and 1,018,078 passengers on the Group’s domestic flights, which represent a 1.2% decrease in travellers that went abroad, and 0.2% decline in travel within the country versus a year ago.
International Routes
- Total load factor remained flat compared to the year-ago period.
- Peak days for passenger departure from Japan started from the end of April until the beginning of May.
- Travel demand rose on Southeast Asia and Europe routes compared to the same period in 2015.
Domestic Routes
- Load factor increased than last year. Peak day for trips was on April 29, and most return on May 5. Domestic traffic showed a trend of spreading almost equally throughout the vacation period.
- Passenger count and load factor on Chugoku and Shikoku routes were increased greatly than last year. Load factor on Kyushu and Okinawa routes was higher than the year-ago period.
