JAL Engineering Co., Ltd Introduces Single-Seat Electric Vehicle for Servicing
JAL Engineering Co., Ltd. (JALEC), the JAL Group (JAL) 100% owned subsidiary aircraft maintenance company announced that it is the first in the airline industry to offer the “single-seat electric vehicle” COMS at Haneda Airport.
Within the airport and in areas where aircraft are specifically parked, maintenance staff have been using vehicles for daily movement between the office and the aircraft. At Haneda Airport, the JAL Group operates numerous daily flights resulting in the frequent use of vehicles for the purpose of maintenance work and staff movement. Van-type vehicles have been primarily used, but since parking area within the airport is limited, JALEC has been looking for opportunities to introduce compact-type vehicles.
As the TOYOTA AUTO BODY “COMS” is an environmentally friendly super-compact electric vehicle that offers smooth maneuvering, it is anticipated to be used for car sharing in urban areas and for short-distance travel. JALEC will introduce the convenient mobility of the “COMS” for daily maintenance duties. Also, by using “COMS,” which does not emit CO2, the introduction further supports the airline’s goals towards contributing towards a cleaner environment.
The JAL Group is committed to finding ways to further improve aircraft quality and to embrace new challenges related to aviation engineering with a focus on eco-first.
