JAL Group Passenger Traffic Forecast for 2017 Golden Week Vacation Period

The JAL Group (JAL) announced today, its passenger traffic forecast for the annual Japanese “Golden Week” vacation period, which spans 10 days this year from Friday, April 28 to Sunday, May 7, 2017.

Capacity is 1.6% lower on international routes and 1.2% more on domestic routes compared to the same period last year. The number of passenger reservations on JAL’s international flights is currently 232,263, while domestically, bookings have reached 905,817 to date. These represent an increase in the number of international bookings by 0.3% and 12.0% higher for domestic bookings compared with a year ago.

International Routes

Higher booking factor on Korea and Europe routes thanks to growing demands of inbound travel to Japan compared to the same period in 2016. Total booking factor increased by 1.6 percentage points to 81.3% compared to the year-ago period. The peak for air travelers departing from Japan is from April 28 through 29, and May 3. The busy time for arrival is between May 5 and 7.

Domestic Routes

Passenger reservations and booking factor increased than last year, especially on Okinawa routes. The departure from Tokyo meets peak on April 29 and May 3. The return will be busy on May 3, and from May 5 through 7.
