JAL, Sumitomo Corporation and Bell Launch Drone demonstration test in Texas

Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President, Representative Director: Yuji Akasaka; hereinafter “JAL ”), together with Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative
Director, President CEO: Masayuki Hyodo; hereinafter “Sumitomo”) and Bell Textron Inc., a Textron Inc.
(NYSE: TXT) company, (Headquarters: Texas, United States, President & CEO: Mitch Snyder, hereinafter
“Bell ”), flew demonstration test using the APT 70 (*1) developed by Bell in Fort Worth, TX. (*2)

Japan is a country that is vulnerable to natural disasters due to its topography, geology, weather and other characteristics. As one of the measures to prevent and mitigate disasters, we aim to build a new
disaster response model utilizing the drone that can be assembled in a short time.

  (*1) Autonomous Pod Transport 70
It is equipped with a distributed power propulsion system and flies autonomously at a maximum speed of 160 km/h in ground speed (cruising ground speed 112 km/h). It has a range of 35 miles (about 56 km) and can
carry a maximum load of 100 pounds (about 45 kg).

【Demonstration details】
・Verification of operability for demonstration tests in Japan (Assembling, disassembling, transporting, etc.)
・Usability confirmation using a simulator Investigation.
・Investigation of flight performance on the assumption of medical and aid transport

JAL will make effective use of the drone operation know-how and survey data obtained through this
demonstration experiment and in order to realize the use of drones for various purposes such as transporting
goods and responding to emergencies during disasters, including in mountainous areas and remote islands, we will aim to conduct flight demonstrations in Japan in cooperation with local governments.

JAL, as a professional aviation company, aims to create a prosperous and sustainable society through
comprehensive air mobility operations that are safe and secure. We will utilize our operational know-how
related to air travel to provide the next-generation transport and travel infrastructure that meets the needs of the region, and promote initiatives to realize the JAL DRONE business while solving regional issues in areas such as disaster response and medical care.
