JAL and JAL Engineering Win IT Award for Innovation
Tokyo, JAPAN - JAL and JAL Engineering have been awarded the “IT Award (Open Innovation Area)” for the “42nd IT Award” announced by the Japan Institute of Information Technology. This is the third time this award has been received, following last year.
The award results from the theme “Maintenance DX in pursuit of ‘Zero Zero 100’ in aircraft maintenance.”
【Evaluation Comments】
JAL Engineering Co., Ltd. has been working on DX for aircraft maintenance, which is widely complicated and failure-proof, under the "Zero Zero 100" philosophy. This approach aims to prevent aircraft failures by predicting them before they occur. This initiative was highly evaluated as an example of aggressively challenging the application of new technology and promoting DX through cooperation with various partner organizations, and is worthy of the IT Award.
【Initiatives leading to the award】
1. Failure prediction algorithm development
Improve the accuracy of advance detection of aircraft failures using failure prediction algorithms based on the use of digital technologies such as big data and AI to achieve reliable predictive maintenance.
2. Development of diagnostic support tools for the internal condition of the engine
Applying medical image recognition AI technology to engine endoscopy improves the accuracy of internal
engine inspections and prevents engine defects before they occur.
3. Development of line maintenance plan optimization applications using quantum computing technology
An application for automatic optimization of aircraft maintenance planning has been developed using quantum computing technology for line maintenance planning work, which has been assigned to experienced personnel because of the need to take into account a huge number of constraints, such as aircraft usage and the number of mechanics.
