PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; Director, President & CEO: Masahiro Ito, hereinafter “PowerX”), Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President & Group CEO : Mitsuko Tottori, hereinafter “JAL”), and JAL Agriport Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Narita City, Chiba Prefecture; President: Kenichi Hanamasu, hereinafter “JAGRI”) (*1) have launched a strategic partnership to promote renewable-energy use in agriculture, explore its wider deployment, and examine new environmental businesses—including carbon-credit initiatives.

As the first initiative of this collaboration, the three companies aim to start a pilot project by July 2025 to produce high-quality strawberries sustainably year-round, reducing environmental impact while maintaining optimal growing conditions. The project will take place at JAGRI’s farm in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, where a PowerX Cube (*2)—a battery energy storage system developed and manufactured by PowerX—will be installed to improve electricity usage efficiency. By combining this with on-site solar systems to increase the share of renewable energy consumption, the project aims to achieve carbon-zero agriculture. This approach enables strawberry cultivation during the summer months when market prices are higher, leveraging the JAL Group’s extensive sales network and both domestic and international logistics capabilities to establish a profitable and sustainable agricultural model.

Looking ahead, the three companies plan to expand carbon-zero agriculture to additional locations across Japan and develop broader environmental solutions for businesses seeking renewable energy and carbon-offset strategies, laying the groundwork for future ventures.

The three companies will accelerate open innovation and strive to create new value, taking a pioneering role in achieving an environmentally conscious, sustainable future.
