Tokyo, JAPAN - Effective November 13, 2025, cabin crew members across six JAL Group airlines (*), along with approximately 14,000 airport service staff at 56 domestic and 40 overseas airports (including partner company employees), will have the option to wear sneakers while on duty.

Long hours on foot and frequent walking are integral to cabin crew and airport staff duties. Previously limited to black leather shoes, heels, or pumps; the official uniform will now include solid black sneakers as an alternative.

This change aims to reduce physical strain and enhance comfort, enabling staff to deliver attentive and approachable service performance throughout their shifts.

Earlier this year, initiatives such as open-collar shirts and fan-equipped safety vests were introduced to address  summer heat challenges for the airport staff. The addition of sneakers continues the commitment to improving workplace conditions.

JAL is committed to fostering a vibrant work environment where each employee can thrive, respecting diverse passenger perspectives, and continuously refining products and services to provide safe, secure, and sustainable air travel for all passengers and the natural world.
