Press Release
JAL Cargo Fuel Surcharge for October 2009
Tokyo, September 11, 2009: Japan Airlines (JAL) has applied to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to revise from October 1, 2009, its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan only.
Since April 01, 2009, JAL started adjusting its fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singapore kerosene of the month before last. As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for the month of August in 2009 was US$78.81 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level in October will be within the range of US$75.00 to US$79.99 per barrel (refer to table below).
The international cargo fuel surcharge will therefore increase on long-haul international routes from 59 yen per kg to 66 yen, on medium-haul international routes from 51 yen per kg to 57 yen, and on short-haul routes from 43 yen per kg to 48 yen accordingly.
