Press Release
JAL Cargo Fuel Surcharge for February 2011
Tokyo, January 14, 2011: Japan Airlines (JAL) has applied to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to revise up from February 1, 2011, its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan only.
Since April 1, 2009, JAL started adjusting its cargo fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singaporekerosene of the month before last. As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for the month of December in 2010 was US$103.53 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level will be within the range of US$100.00 to US$104.99 per barrel (refer to table below).
The international cargo fuel surcharge will therefore increase on long-haul international routes from 94 yen per kg to 101 yen, on medium-haul international routes from 81 yen per kg to 87 yen, and on short-haul routes from 68 yen per kg to 73 yen accordingly.
