Japan Airlines Signs Purchase Agreement for Additional Boeing 787-9 Aircraft

Tokyo, JAPAN - Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "JAL") has signed a purchase agreement with The Boeing Company (hereinafter "Boeing") for a firm order of 10 additional Boeing 787-9 aircraft (with an option for 10 more). This follows JAL's announcement on March 21, 2024, regarding the introduction of these aircraft. JAL Group already operates over 50 Boeing 787 series aircraft (see table below). With the introduction of these additional aircraft, JAL aims to enhance and expand the capacity of its international operations, focusing primarily on regions such as North America, Asia, and India, where future growth is expected.

The introduction of these aircraft is planned over a period of approximately four years, starting in 2028. By 2030, JAL aims to expand and grow its international network, increasing the combined supply capacity of both full-service carriers and low-cost carriers (LCCs). This will be achieved by accelerating the introduction of modern, fuel-efficient aircraft, thereby enhancing the quality of inflight services and providing the highest level of service to our customers while further reducing CO2 emissions.
