JAL Becomes the First in Japan to Obtain "Drone Service Quality Certification (JIS Y1011)"
- Contributing to the Standardization and Reliability of Drone Services -
Tokyo, JAPAN - Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL) has become the first company in Japan to obtain the "Drone Service Quality Certification (JIS Y1011)" (hereafter "the certification") issued by the General Incorporated Association Drone Service Promotion Association (DSPA) as of June 5, 2025. This certification recognizes JAL’s achievement in drone operational support services in the categories of "Transport and Delivery," "Emergency Transport," and "Disaster Investigation”, acknowledging high-quality standards in both the services provided and consulting.

This certification is based on Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), established in August 2024 (*1) by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). These standards define the processes and criteria necessary for delivering drone services.
Certifications are issued by DSPA based on these standards, while the assessment activities are conducted by Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA).
Through transparent and high-quality certifications, this program aims to standardize and enhance the reliability of drone services offered by businesses, contributing to market expansion and industry development (*2).
In addressing social challenges and fostering sustainable flows of people, commerce, and logistics, JAL has been actively advancing air mobility initiatives. A major area has been the social implementation of drone services, which requires the establishment of robust operational management systems that include safety protocols and risk assessments. Developing quality standards, such as those represented by this certification, plays a criteria role in promoting the safe, and reliable expansion of drone technologies and services. Efforts have been actively pursued to acquire certifications like this to ensure high-quality standards for drone operational support services.
JAL will continue to provide safe and reliable drone services as an accredited operator under the "Drone Service Quality Certification (JIS Y1011)." In addition, efforts will focus on contributing to the establishment of a society where quality certification systems are widely adopted, allowing drones to be effectively utilized in various fields, including addressing labor shortages and disaster response.
