Tokyo, JAPAN - Japan Airlines (JAL) and Japan Transocean Air (JTA) have revised the application period and the amount of fuel surcharge on international passenger tickets purchased in Japan between May 1 and June 30, 2026, due to fuel prices rising to an abnormally high level.

JAL and JTA set fuel surcharge levels based on the two-month average price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel. The price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel during the two-month period of February and March 2026 averaged USD 146.99 per barrel, which corresponds to JPY 23,076 based on the average exchange rate of JPY/USD 156.99 during the same period.

Under the revised application period and amount, the fuel surcharge for tickets issued between May and June 2026 would normally correspond to Zone R. However, reflecting the government subsidy provided as part of emergency mitigation measures in response to the situation in the Middle East during the assessment period (February-March), the fuel surcharge applied to tickets issued between May and June 2026 will correspond to Zone Q.
