Tokyo, JAPAN - Japan Airlines (JAL) and Japan Transocean Air (JTA) have requested for approval from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) for the revision of fuel surcharge on international passenger tickets purchased in Japan between July 1 and August 31, 2026.

JAL and JTA set fuel surcharge levels based on the two-month average price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel. The price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel during the two-month period of April and May 2026 averaged USD 178.21 per barrel, which corresponds to JPY 28,308 based on the average exchange rate of JPY/USD 158.85 during the same period.

Under the revised amount, the fuel surcharge for tickets issued between July and August 2026 would normally correspond to Zone W. However, reflecting the government subsidy provided as part of emergency mitigation measures in response to the situation in the Middle East during the assessment period (April-May), the fuel surcharge applied to tickets issued between July and August 2026 will correspond to Zone T.
