Tokyo, JAPAN―The JAL Group is actively working to generate international travel demand to and from Japan, while expanding "relationships and connections through travel" within domestic regions.
As the first phase of measures to strongly support the Japanese government's goal of welcoming 60 million international visitors by 2030 and to revitalize regional economies by bringing international travelers directly to regional Japan, JAL will strengthen its high-performing Taipei routes. Furthermore, the JAL Group intends to accelerate these initiatives by fully utilizing its capabilities and collaborating with partner airlines.

Phase 1: Strengthening the Taipei Routes
●Resuming operations on the Kansai - Taipei (Taoyuan) route for the first time in 2 years
●Launching ticket sales for JTA's Okinawa (Naha) - Taipei (Taoyuan) route for the 2026 winter season

■Background and Objectives of the Initiative
While Japan's tourism industry is booming due to remarkable international travel demand, overtourism caused by the concentration of tourists in the Tokyo metropolitan area and select regions has emerged as a significant challenge. Concurrently, as traveler preferences shift from shopping for goods to seeking local experiences, interest in Japan's unique regional nature, traditional culture, and culinary heritage has been increasing. However, many regions face challenges in fully conveying their appeal due to limitations in secondary transportation and information dissemination.
By operating direct flights from overseas to regional areas, JAL aims to facilitate smooth access to hidden gems across Japan, disperse tourism demand, stimulate new regional economic cycles, and contribute to establishing Japan as a sustainable tourism-oriented nation.

■Details of Phase 1: Strengthening Taipei Routes
(1) Operation of Kansai - Taipei (Taoyuan) Route for the first time in 2 years
With a series of consecutive holidays from September through October, this period represents a peak travel season for international travel on the Taipei route. JAL will operate flights on the Kansai - Taipei (Taoyuan) route for specific dates during these holidays for the first time in two years, directly capturing robust travel demand into the Kansai region.

(2) Winter Schedule Operations for Okinawa (Naha) - Taipei (Taoyuan) Route
The Okinawa (Naha) - Taipei (Taoyuan) route operated by Japan Transocean Air (JTA), which launched on February 3, 2026, will continue operations through the second half (winter) schedule of 2026. In addition to further stimulating tourism and economic exchanges with Naha, which is located in close proximity to Taipei, utilizing Naha as a gateway enables travelers to combine flights with the JAL Group's domestic network and JAL's Taipei routes (to/from Haneda, Narita, Chubu, and Kansai), facilitating island-hopping and travel throughout Japan.
